I really wanted to get the Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device (9.7″ Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation), but I was cautious after reading certain reviews so I started with the basic Kindle. I should have gotten the Kindle DX because the Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6″ Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation) is INCREDIBLE! People moaned & groaned about the weight, trust me, the Kindle is far less cumbersome than wielding some of the thousand plus page books I have read since I bought it! Some folk complained about the slight grayish background and the text not being “true black.” These folk must be professional archivist or nit pickers. I do not have the greatest vision and the text is incredible.
I am an American Citizen living in Australia and the ability to download a 1600 page book in less than 60 seconds is amazing. I am addicted to this device, I even bought a “Man-Bag” (5796 OLIVE DRAB CANVAS MAP CASE SHOULDER BAGS) to carry it with me EVERYWHERE! It is indispensable on public transportation, or waiting for my kid to get out of school. I look at the book bags being carried by elementary and high school kids and think that with a Kindle type device they will be a thing of the past.
As for people bitching and moaning about how it handles PDF files, that seems to be an issue with Adobe and their persnickety licensing of their software and NOT a problem with Amazon and the Kindle design team. I am thinking that the demographic who needs that feature the most would be professionals who could afford something just for PDFs.
THE ONLY ISSUE I HAVE WITH THE KINDLE IS COPYRIGHT LAWS! Before I ordered my Kindle, I filled my wish list with Kindle versions of books I wanted. Because I am working in Australia NONE of the books I wanted were available! NONE! However, because I still maintain a home in the USA, I was able to switch my residence to reflect the US address and then I could download what ever I wanted. Still I was angry that that was not made
