An engaging first novel by Kathryn Stockett which transports the reader to circa 1960’s Mississippi. This is a story about racism, cruelty, violence and shame but it is also about hope, caring, love and change. A novel set in a culture and society that puts limits on people and ideas and a brave group of women who defy that. It is a first class example of great story telling. All of the characters; Abiliene, Hilly,Skeeter,Minny and others are so richly developed they come to have meaning outside their roles as housewives and maids. In essence it’s what the book is about. Each person tells their story so that the reader can empathize with them as complete people and not just their role. You will laugh, cry, hate, love, cringe, approve, disapprove because Stockett’s writing encourages the reader to have a real emotional connection with the characters. This book is sure to cause deep reflection for the women who read it and discuss it. In the end, Stockett has created an uplifting novel which illustrates beautifully how women through their bonds can change the world.

Wonderful book – the voices in the book allow the reader to get a clear picture of each character. Eye-opening view into a difficult time in our not-too-distant past. Highly recommend.

I’ll begin by saying that I’ve always purchased Sandisk memory cards for all of my digital cameras and was very hesitant to purchase this card. My daughter told me that she had several Transcend cards and had experienced no problems with them. The reviews here still worried me some but I decided to give them a try – knowing I had a small sandisk that I could use as backup (even if it meant having to dump the card to my laptop several times.) I’m happy to report that I used these cards this weekend while shooting a wedding (I did some test shots first) and experienced no problems. There was no lag time even when shooting several shots in quick succession and my images look great. I was also impressed with the packaging – each card was in a snap-lock plastic case and sealed in a small bubble wrap envelope.

This card failed on first full use – the first day of my holiday – and again on subsequent uses in a camera compatible with 16G SDHC cards. I was able to download the photos that had been taken up until the point at which the error occurred.

Errors were at multiple points on the card – 6.2G initially then after a reformat at 9.4G. This time removing and replacing the card and camera battery revived the card, but it failed again at 9.4G and stayed dead. Again though I could retrieve the photos using a card reader.

The card did compare well to a Sandisk 4G Class 6 SDHC card on speed testing – both took 42 shots in 40s on a Canon Powershot G11.

Back to Sandisk. I guess the reliability of the Sandisk cards justifies the extra cost.

A family gaming system that is O.K. With all the hype I was expecting more. Most games are geared towards little kids, which was to be expected. Why no HD? Many people that rate it 5 stars say “It’s the game play not graphics” I agree to a point, but in this day and age there is no excuse not to have HD and to me it only enhances the game play experience. And if it’s game play the’re worried about then I’m sorry to say that I have found few games I consider fun. The sports games are fun but the redundent motion gets old quick. The bowling is fun when having a party! For ages 4-9 and 50+. My wife likes it but I will stick with my 360.

I have had an iPhone since they were first released and I have bought many different cases. Some good and some bad. The Otterbox Defender is the best case I have ever owned. The only problem I had with the case was the installed screen protector. While I have no doubt that it would seriously protect the screen from almost anything you throw at it, it caused little bubbles that I found annoying. I simply popped it out and put on my own mirror screen protector, which actually made it look even better. The case is not for everyone since it is a little bulky. All of the buttons are covered and ports as well. It is made very well and very easy to use. The plastic case kind of makes it difficult to turn the volume back on after you silence it, but not too difficult that it takes away from the protection it gives your phone. I have the feeling that this case will last a long time and will protect my phone from all of the mishaps that occure with phones.
