I had some problems installing this, had to be done twice. I wish it would integrate or replace my Microsoft Office 2003 but instead I seem to have both on my computer so when I open an old document, it’s opened with ‘03 and sometimes I accidentally open the old Word. I wish I just had ONE Word so things didn’t get confused like this. Could be doing something wrong, but it should be easier than this, it’s not like I never use computers, I’ve been using Microsoft and Word for at least 15 years.

Other than that, I didn’t like the tool bar change from 2003 to 2007 that took a lot of getting used to and still have to spend some effort finding somethings. With use, as with everything, it gets easier. And all in all it is fine, it’s not like I would go back to only using 2003.

The Microsoft Office that I was using was 97. I bought a new computer, so I wanted to upgrade to Office 2007. I cannot live without Word and Excel. It was about a week before Office 2010 came out, but then I saw a special deal to get 2010 free. I think it runs through September. Amazon was offering 2007 for $99.99 ($50 cheaper than anywhere else) and just by registering my product by September, I could download the new Office 2010. I’m so glad I went this route. I saved money and I love both Office 2007 and 2010. It is well worth your hard earned money to buy Office 2007 with the free upgrade!

I’ve owned a variety of vacuums over the years and this is the one I would rate the best. I’ve had the large, powerful machines recommended by Consumer Reports, and smaller ones, too. This one has the strong cleaning ability of the big ones, but is light and maneuverable at the same time. It’s easy to clean stairs and furniture without having to attaach a hose. Just lift the vacuum up and go to it. I would recommend this machine without reservation!

In Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer, young prodigy Artemis Fowl II wants gold. And, as a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind, he knows how to get it. In order to retrieve one ton of twenty-four-carat gold, he abducts Captain Holly Short, a fairy of the LEPrecon Unit. Along with his manservant Butler, Artemis encounters a digging-and-entering dwarf, a one hundred and eighty kilogram troll, and a bio-bomb capable of wiping out every single living thing in his entire mansion. Eventually, Artemis comes out with about half the money he originally was hoping for. Artemis Fowl is a perfect fantasy for anyone interested in a good book.

One interesting part of the novel is how it is told from many points of view. Most of the time, you see the world from Holly’s or Artemis’s eyes, them being the main characters. This leaves you wondering who to root for, the police officer or the criminal. However, sometimes the story is even told by more minor characters, such as Butler, who sees most of the action, or Mulch Diggums, a career criminal dwarf the LEP hire to enter Artemis’s mansion.

Another enjoyable part of the book is its believability. For instance, throughout the book, little tidbits about fairies and their history appear, such as the fact that the human word “leprechaun” originally came from LEPrecon, or the Lower Elements Police Recon Unit. This helps make the whole concept of a “fairy” more plausible. Also, in the book, fairies are considerably more technologically advanced than humans. This should only be expected, considering the fact that they can use their magic incorporated in with their inventions. It also brings readers away from the “medieval witchcraft and wizardry” generally associated with this type of fantasy. So here’s the difficult decision: You’re looking for a new mp3 player. Should you break down and join the Mac bandwagon? Is it really that epic? Don’t worry; as someone who has used multiple types of mp3 players (including the iPod Touch and Creative Zen Micro), I’m here to help.

I know, I know, the iPod Touch is the big thing, especially with those awesome Mac commercials to back it up. You know the ones:

But seriously, memorable marketing techniques aside, is Mac really that much better? Or are they just taking advantage of the unstoppable mechanical abomination that was Windows Vista?

I know, I know, I’m getting off topic with the whole Mac/PC thing, but isn’t that the point? It is, actually, and I’ll tell you why: The iPod is kind of like the poster child for the ever-expanding Mac empire. And now, the iPod Touch slash iPhone has become the unstoppable force against which all other mp3 players (and phones) must be compared.

Some of the key features of this capitalist behemoth include:

Massive amounts of space for music!
***** Video players
***** Wifi for all of us internet dweebs (or teenage girls who can¡¦t be separated from Facebook)
***** And, of course, the apps.

So whether you want to play Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies, or lose a million consecutive games of chess against a Chinese Master-Computer, or look up the word Grandiloquence, or find a map somewhere, or browse around at your cute little Lolcats, or a bajillion other things, the iPod can help you do it!

So, at this point the iPod is looking pretty much awesome, right?

I had a hard time putting this book down, not because it was action packed or particularly fast paced, but because the development, sincerity and engaging voice of the main character at both stages of his life was refreshingly flawless. The voice remains true and believable throughout the entire narrative and is well developed giving me a clear picture of who Jacob Jankowski is and why I should care. Because this is achieved, I am fully invested in his world and experiences. Like wise, the supporting characters are dynamic and interesting, but even given their deformities, whether physical or psychologically, they never over shadow the main character.

The book provokes thoughts on treatment and intelligence of animals, economy, marriage, class, race, healthcare, friendship and family. As well as, it forces us to take a hard look at how our culture deals with the elderly.

“Sometimes the monotony of bingo and sing-alongs and ancient dusty people parked in the hallway in wheelchairs makes me long for death. Particularly when I remember that I’m one of the ancient dusty people, filed away like some worthless tchotchke.”

If I had to give a ‘con’ to the book, it would be toward the ending when the author simplifies Jacob’s journey with a ‘run away with the circus’ solution. However, this does not disappoint and in a way is the logical path and most appropriate ending given the character’s circumstances and alternative. It is the happiest it can get.
