The Help by Kathryn Scockett is a wonderfully written book that will captivate many types of readers. It will make you feel as though you are sitting in the same room with the characters, watching the action and feeling a variety of emotions run through your body. This memorizing book takes place in Mississippi during the 1960’s and describes the hardships of black housekeepers’ lives. The headstrong main character, Skeeter, struggles to write a book in private about the taboo topic of the housekeepers’ lives and how they were treated. I highly recommend The Help to any type of reader that wants an intriguing, engaging, and entrancing read.

I have always been an avid reader and the Kindle fits perfectly in meeting my needs to easy access to any book I want to read. I have had mine for about 3 weeks and have no complaints. I have to have carpal tunnel surgery on both hands this summer (not at the same time for those who are concerned) and I am looking forward to being able to prop my Kindle up and not have to worry about how I am going to hold a book – Ill be good to go. I highly recommend this for personal use or as a gift. In fact I’m going to ask for gift cards for my purchase of more books. My husband said – “You mean now we can get rid of the books all over the bedroom floor”. A little exageration there – they are in baskets all over the floor – but he loved it when I said YES!

I had never thought about purchasing a kindle until my doctor as me what book I was reading because it was a hardback and not my usual paperback. He said he saw that book on his Kindle but didn’t read about it in the preview. I told him how much I was enjoying it and he wrote down the name and author and said he was going to order for himself and his wife (who received her Kindle for Christmas).

I highly recommed the Kindle and ecourage all to get the hardback cover. Keeps your Kindle clean and really makes it easier to hold.

My local library was offering the Kindle out for loan and I wanted to try it. One of the books that was downloaded onto it was “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. Just by chance this is the book I decided to “try out” on the Kindle, having no idea what it was about…and I was not disappointed with my choice. This book was heartwarming, inspirational a wonderful read. I highly recommend it and hope that everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

God bless the confused and misled! If you want to hear from God, try praying and read the Word that He gave us. If you don’t believe in the validity of the Bible then what makes this man or any other man right???? You have questions for God but first you must ask yourself what you believe in and what you want you faith to rest on. God does not intend to make us feel good about everything we do or want. He wants us to conform to Him but this man is conforming God to what he wants Him to be. Beware of false prophets!

Most of the time when I reach for a book that is earning high praise from critics and professional book reviewers I flinch a little inside and begin with not a small amount of trepidation. Why? Because most of the time the books fail to live up to the hype.

And so I put off reading The Help. I put it off for quite some time and honestly, I still would be putting it off if I hadn’t, on a whim, decided, what the hell, I might as well give it a shot.

The first page had me hooked and I’ve carried this book around with me all day long today, inhaling it like it was a huge box of chocolates and I couldn’t eat them fast enough.

I’m sure by now you know what this is a story about. 1960’s Mississippi dealing with segregation and the struggle to define a love/hate relationship between women and their “help” during that time period. The main three characters in this book nearly pop off the pages with their personalities and boy, the “villains”, those selfish, horrible women who have types that are still around today, they personify the worst of what any of us could be.

I cried and laughed and grieved my way through this novel. I was, in turn, horrified by the injustice of the acts being described and uplifted by the attitudes displayed. There are no saints here, there’s no need to be. Just pure, human emotions. Mistakes made, happy moments shared and throughout the entire book there is this gripping feeling of suspense that has you racing toward the end to learn the fates of the women you began to fall in love with at the beginning.

This is a story that will not disappoint you. If you are hesitant, like I was, take the leap. I’m glad I did.

I had a number of step counters. I hated wearing them on my belt – I gave up pocket protectors years ago. But if I put them in my pocket, they always reset. Indeed, many of them would reset on my belt due to my arm brushing against them. The Omron is a miracle. It’s made to be put in your pocket. Looked for a long time for anything that would get my husband on his feet and moving that was not called exercise. He has PPS and even walking is painful. He can stand as long as he can then sit in a chair and play all of the games in the Wii sports package and be moving more than he has in some time and have fun doing it.
